2. Day 1: Arrival
Morning
Arrival: Check into a cozy inn or luxury resort such as the Bay View Hotel or Bar Harbor Inn for luxury, or Harborside Inn or Bar Harbor Hotel for a budget option.
Explore downtown: Stroll along Main Street, browse local shops, and visit the Abbe Museum. Make sure you stop by Bar Harbor Popcorn for the best popcorn ever. Their cheddar popcorn is my favorite and it’s an easy snack to enjoy while you stroll through town. I also recommend it for a movie night back at your hotel. Either way, don’t skip this one!
Afternoon
Don’t skip lunch as Stewman’s Lobster Pound. You’ll enjoy waterfront views and delicious food. Their chowder is great too.
Next, visit Bar Island nature preserve during low tide (the only time its accessible). It’s a great place to take in the raw beauty this part of Acadia National Park.
After a nice time outdoors, you’ll be ready for some coffee. For this, I recommend grabbing a coffee at the Coffee Hound. Enjoy it there as you people watch, or stroll along the waterfront as you sip your drink.
Evening
Once you’ve done all that walking, you’ll probably be ready for a sit-down meal. If you want fine dining, try Havana, or for a more casual meal, try Geddy’s. They have some pretty great seafood.
3. Day 2: Adventure in Acadia National Park
Morning
For breakfast, try Jeannie’s Great Maine Breakfast. It’s a hearty start to your day. It’s also a great place to go if you’ve gotten up early to see the beautiful Maine sunrise. Cadillac Mountain puts on the first display of sunshine for the entire USA.
If you didn’t go to see the first sunrise, once you’ve had breakfast at Jeannie’s, it’s a great time to tackle the Precipice Trail for thrill-seekers or find your way to Jordan Pond Path for a more leisurely walk.
Afternoon
Stop for lunch at Jordan Pond House. They’re famous for their popovers, and for good reason. Just don’t forget a cup of tea or coffee to go with it!
When you’re done with lunch, head back out into Acadia to explore a beautiful scenic drive through Park Loop Road, and stopping at Thunder Hole and Sand Beach for epic view and photos.
Evening
Dinner can be a waterfront affair at the Reading Room Restaurant. Then, finish up the evening with a little stargazing. With so many entrances to Acadia just outside of town, there’s no reason not to. The night sky at Acadia is something to behold. Head to Dark Sky Park for the best views.
